Bryce Canyon natives, Riley and April Roberts purchased the Stone Canyon Inn and Stone Hearth Grille in early 2018 from Dixie and Mike Burbidge. The local connection not only helped them with acquiring the property from Dixie, but also gives them unique insights to help customers have the best experience possible.
We are both local to the Bryce Canyon area. We grew up hiking, fishing, hunting and enjoying this majestic area which we live in and have a deep love for its peace and beauty. We continue to enjoy the area with our five boys and have gained a deeper love and appreciation for its uniqueness as we share it with others from around the world.
It’s not surprising that Stone Canyon guests feel the difference. Because the property is smaller and locally owned, we are also able to give insider tips on where to hike and how to get to areas that most people don’t see. Our guests love the personal tips and attention they get while staying at the Stone Canyon Inn.
How it all began: While Dixie and Mike Burbidge were hiking in a slot canyon they started to fantasize about the idea of living in this gorgeous country and a seed was planted. The dream of running an inn and guiding people that have never experienced this rugged red rock and narrow canyon wilderness started to grow.
It took several years to find the perfect piece of property, 80 acres actually bordering Bryce Canyon National Park. Who knew land like this even existed?
In 1996, they purchased the land and began to formalize exact plans. In the summer of 1999, they faced the challenge of installing over a mile of water and sewer. Then the trial of building in the country; four hours from any metropolis arrived.
Finally, the beginning of a dream came to fruition in August of 2000 when the Stone Canyon Inn was opened. Four years later four cottages to accommodate all the families that wanted to stay with us were added. The Inn has continued to expand and currently has four cottages, four Bungalows, two Tree Houses and four Deluxe King room units. Rooms in the main Inn are no longer rented as that space has been turned into the Stone Hearth Grille restaurant.
This Hotel property, in Utah, affords you views of the park and the surrounding areas. From our large deck facing east, you can sit outside and enjoy a magnificent dinner at the Stone Hearth Grille. In the late afternoon, as the sun sets, it will “light up” Powell Point – a 10,000+ plateau across our eastern valley.
Later, as the sky darkens for the night, that same deck offers you world famous star gazing while enjoying your dinner.
Our view from the front of the Inn is spectacular! You’ll get to see parts of Bryce Canyon that can only be seen from our vantage point! You can look up from your living room and see Bristlecone Ridge, Sinking Ship, Fairyland Amphitheater, Sunrise and Sunset Points. Many facilities in the area only show views of the trees, buildings or parking – we have the park itself, looking right down on our Inn – how fantastic is that?
